CONFIGURATIONS
The NEMA 5-15 plug/power outlet system is in general use in the USA and Canada but is also in use internationally. In Central America, Columbia, Venezuela and Ecuador this system is a standard for earthed connection of Class I apparatus. In addition, this plug is also used in Korea and Taiwan. The contact pattern of NEMA 5 - 15 also fits into Japanese power outlets, but Japan has its own standard and an own approval symbol (see „Japanese plug“).

The NEMA 5-15P plug has two flat, folded, bright brass pins and a round earthing pin arranged offset in the center. Upon request, solid, nickel-plated flat brass pins can be delivered. This also applies to the earthing pin. The center-to-center distance between the contact pins is 12.7 mm.
The arrangement of the pins depending on current and voltage is determined in the NEMA standards. The most important configurations are shown on page 24.
